Trojans Lose: -
It was a windy day at Michigan International Speedway, and it made for tough races for Lovelyn Ketepa and Cole Wyckoff . This was Cole's first trip to the state finals and the sophomore runner finished the 5000 meter race with a time of 20:27.  He improved his standing among regional runners by 4 places. Lovelyn qualified for the State Meet last year with the team, but this was her first time qualifying for the finals as an individual.  Despite the strong wind gusts and driving rain that started during the 2nd mile of the race, Lovelyn managed to improve her time on the MIS course by an impressive 1:22.  This race concludes the cross country season for the Trojan runners.  They will turn their focus to their winter sports, while they build their mileage base and prepare for next fall!

The Region 26-3 championship race was at Huron Meadows Metropark on Friday afternoon.  Of the 21 schools in the region, the Clawson girls placed 5th overall and the boys team was 7th.   Lovelyn Ketepa dropped 10 seconds off her previous PR to earn All-Region honors with a 10th place finish and invitation to the MHSAA State Finals.  She will be joined by Cole Wyckoff whose 20:12 was quick enough to get the last individual qualifying spot in the boys race.  Clawson has not sent a boy and a girl to the state finals in the same year since Shannon Moorehouse and Andrey Kloka did it in 2008. The state finals will be held at Michigan International Speedway on November 5th.  Boys will run at 10:10 and the girls will run at 11:30.

In spite of the windy conditions the cross country teams turned in some gritty performances at 2nd MAC Blue Jamboree of the season.  Sterling Heights hosted the meet at Lake St. Clair Metropark. Cole Wyckoff was once again the quickest Trojan of the day, but Luke Wilder was not far behind with a season best time of 22:21.  Caden Jones set a personal record of 22:35 and finishing ahead of Gabe Stevens.  Xander Frink was the final varsity runner for the squad and chopped 2:21 off of his previous best time. Lucy Thomson was the first Trojan off the starting line and held that position until the end of the race.  Calleigh McMillan posted her quickest time for the 5k and was the 2nd Trojan to finish the race.  Lizzie Schneider had a strong finish to hold off a couple of hard charging runners from New Haven and South Lake, while Charly Werenka was 1:52 faster than her old personal best time. The Trojans next race will be at Freedom Hill County Park on Saturday for the Hanson's Invitational.

The Trojans continue to set personal records while running in their second race of the season.  The boys were led by Ray Lanfear who lowered his time to 19:31.  Cole Wyckoff and Caden Jones were the 3rd and 4th Trojans to cross the line.  Cole was over 3 minutes faster than his time at this race last year, and Caden dropped his PR by 45 seconds.  On the girls side Lovelyn Ketepa was the first to cross the line, and like her teammates, Calleigh McMillan, Lizzie Schneider, and Charly Werenka, she ran her fastest-ever time for the 5k.  Lucy Thomson ran a solid race and was the 2nd Trojan to cross the line. The runners will travel to Port Huron on Tuesday for the first MAC Jamboree of the season.
